Remembering Operation Eagle Claw
A commemorative wreath is displayed near a memorial stained-glass window at Hurlburt Field, Florida, April 24, 2025. U.S. Air Force Base Honor Guardsmen laid the wreath at the end of a memorial ceremony in honor of the eight servicemen killed during Operation Eagle Claw in 1980 an attempt to free American hostages in Iran. The lessons learned from the mission led to the creation of U.S. Special Operations Command. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Samantha Rossi)
