THE FREAK OUT

Whoa! I freaked out when I saw the article "Pole Position" in your March/April 2008 issue of Torch (page 16). I'll be going to basic training soon, and I'm deathly afraid of heights. There is no way I could do what the guy in the opening photo was doing on a ladder 40-feet in the air without holding onto anything with his hands. I didn't even know the Air Force had acrophobia testing in basic training. At first I thought everyone had to go through it, and I was ready to call my recruiter and tell him to go to "H. E. Double toothpicks." I was relieved to find out that it only pertained to certain career fields. ... Needless to say, I won't be trying for any of those careers.
