JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – At approximately 12:18 p.m., Joint Base San Antonio Security Forces and Explosives Ordnance Disposal officials gave the all-clear following a precautionary cordon at the Luke Avenue East Gate here earlier this morning.

A civilian attempted to gain access to the installation and made comments that caused base officials to take precautionary measures. The search was ended with negative findings after a complete evaluation of the vehicle and its contents. The suspect is currently in the custody of Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The Luke Avenue East and West Gates remain closed as officials complete final actions, and the Selfridge West Gate will remain open for personnel until normal operations are resumed. Normal traffic has resumed on Military Drive.

“I am extremely proud of our emergency response personnel both on the base and from the San Antonio community,” said Brig. Gen. Russell Driggers, Joint Base San Antonio and 502nd Air Base Wing commander. “Their team effort and quick response ensured the safety of all.”
