If convicted of street racing or aiding and abetting a street race, they can be imprisoned for up to six months (or much longer if they cause injuries or death) and heavily fined. Their driver's license can be revoked. Their car insurance may be cancelled or the rates dramatically increased. Spectators and vehicles in and around illegal street races are often penalized as well.
