Madisyn Cardenas on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO, after being severely injured in a roadside accident in Southeast Texas on Oct. 5, 2022. Cardenas was treated for multiple injures at Brooke Army Medical Center, one of two Level I trauma centers that serves San Antonio and 22 surrounding counties.
